Quick word from Myla

Besides loving books so much I made a blog to talk about them, I am also a writer. Myla is one of the characters in a story I am writing, and she wants to say hi. "....Um....hi?" She is very enthusiastic about checking out some of the books I talk about, and I hope you will be too. Once I actually get followers...if I ever do...

A dramatic tale, but suited more for older girls.

Restauraunt at the End of the Universe

Restauraunt at the End of the Universe
By Douglas Adams

In this equally funny sequel to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the story continues as the friends search for a place to eat and the Ultimate Question. Full of kidnaps, lame jokes, and time warps, this Sci-Fi novel will keep you laughing until the end.

A very excellent sequel. Three thumbs up!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

by Douglas Adams

This was an amazingly funny book!! The series starts off following a human named Arthur Dent, who is saved from his planet's destruction by a traveling hitchhiker. As they roam the galaxy trying to survive, they team up with several unlikely characters, including a chronically depressed robot, a two-headed three-armed alien, and a fellow human girl.

Kept me laughing for hours, and I loved all of the characters. Another book for the favorites list.

by Jonathan Stroud

Nathaneil breaks his promise of never again summoning Bartimaeus, only three years after their small adventure. Now high up in the government, Nathaniel needs help to impress the officials and get a higher rank. As he struggles to reach the top, a young girl named Kitty Jones joins the picture. She, being immune to magic, is a commoner with a cause, and a deep hatred for magicians. When the two humans meet, it's destined to be exciting.

Not my favorite series, but definitely not one of the worst.

Nathaniel has been working poor Bartimaeus to the bone, and being tired, the djinni begins to lose his touch. Hidden in the city, someone else is working hard as well. Kitty, believed to be dead, has been training and is slowly working out a master plan. As the strings draw together, you'll want to see the epic end. Not one for my favorites, but still a very good book!

The Giver by Lois Lowry

The Giver

by Lois Lowry

This classic novel follows the life of a boy named Jonas in a seemingly perfect world. Every family has a mom, dad, and two children, one boy and one girl. Everyone has a job, and no one goes hungry. The elderly and the newborns are taken good care off, and it's a peaceful world. Jonas is just an average kid, until at his apprenticeship, he is given the job of a Receiver. Suddenly he is launched into a world of amazement. He discovers colors, and feelings he never knew. He discovers memories. Along the way he discovers horrible things, and begins to wonder, how perfect is a perfect world?

Five stars for this one, if I gave stars that is.

This sequel to Howls Moving castle, begins in a time of Sultans and Djinn, and the hero comes out as a simple carpet merchant that dreams of being a lost prince. But when He purchases a magic carpet, his dreams begin to come true. Along the way to rescue a trapped princess, He joins up with new and old faces. Favorite characters pop up with new looks, and it leaves you to wonder if anyone is as they seem.

I love this book, and besides going on my favorites list, it also gets a regal place beside Howls Moving Castle on my bookshelf.

Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Fellowship of the Ring By J.R.R. Tolkien This is part one of the classic Lord of the Ring trilogy, and is now also a good movie. The story sets out with a young Hobbit (a small human-like person) named Frodo, who has been given the task of destroying an evil ring. This ring is one to rule them all, as the saying goes, and is of immense power. Joining Frodo are his three best friends, Sam, Pippin ,and Merry. After bringing the ring to a council of elves, the friends carry on their mission, and head out with a small band of companions to destroy the ring.

This is a great book for anyone who loves a good story, it's full of action, mythical creatures and the balance of good and evil. In all, it's another for my favorites list.
