Quick word from Myla

Besides loving books so much I made a blog to talk about them, I am also a writer. Myla is one of the characters in a story I am writing, and she wants to say hi. "....Um....hi?" She is very enthusiastic about checking out some of the books I talk about, and I hope you will be too. Once I actually get followers...if I ever do...

Restauraunt at the End of the Universe

Restauraunt at the End of the Universe
By Douglas Adams

In this equally funny sequel to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the story continues as the friends search for a place to eat and the Ultimate Question. Full of kidnaps, lame jokes, and time warps, this Sci-Fi novel will keep you laughing until the end.

A very excellent sequel. Three thumbs up!

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

by Douglas Adams

This was an amazingly funny book!! The series starts off following a human named Arthur Dent, who is saved from his planet's destruction by a traveling hitchhiker. As they roam the galaxy trying to survive, they team up with several unlikely characters, including a chronically depressed robot, a two-headed three-armed alien, and a fellow human girl.

Kept me laughing for hours, and I loved all of the characters. Another book for the favorites list.

The Amulet of Samarkand by Johnathan Stroud

The Amulet of Samarkand

by Jonathan Stroud

A thrilling novel about djinns and magicians, finds Nathanial, a twelve year old apprentice magician, summoning a powerful djinn to do his bidding. Half told through Nathanial, and half through the djinn, the story is drawn into a dramatic conflict, when The djinn learns the boys true name. This story has a remarkable storyline, and I really enjoyed reading it.

Another five stars.

Along the way he discovers horrible things, and begins to wonder, how perfect is a perfect world?

Fang by James Patterson

Fang

A Maximum Ride Novel

By - James Patterson

The Sixth book in the Maximum Ride series, this novel is based mainly on the main character Max, and her soul-mate and best friend Fang. If you have read any of the books in the series, you would know that Max and the other five members of her family are bird kids, kids with wings. In this book, The flock (Max and the others) are helping out in Africa, when Angel, the youngest of the flock and a notorious mind-reader, predicts that Fang is going to die.

To leave you in utter suspense, This novel is full of surprises, some including homeschooling, another bird-kid, and a wedding. That's all I'm telling you for now. read the book to find out more!!

But when He purchases a magic carpet, his dreams begin to come true. Along the way to rescue a trapped princess, He joins up with new and old faces. Favorite characters pop up with new looks, and it leaves you to wonder if anyone is as they seem.

Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Fellowship of the Ring By J.R.R. Tolkien This is part one of the classic Lord of the Ring trilogy, and is now also a good movie. The story sets out with a young Hobbit (a small human-like person) named Frodo, who has been given the task of destroying an evil ring. This ring is one to rule them all, as the saying goes, and is of immense power. Joining Frodo are his three best friends, Sam, Pippin ,and Merry. After bringing the ring to a council of elves, the friends carry on their mission, and head out with a small band of companions to destroy the ring.

This is a great book for anyone who loves a good story, it's full of action, mythical creatures and the balance of good and evil. In all, it's another for my favorites list.

Mara Daughter of the Nile, by Eloise Jarvis McGraw

Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw A beautiful slave girl in ancient Egypt, blue eyed Mara is strong willed, and yearns for her freedom. She finally finds this chance in the form of two new masters, both using her as a spy for a different side. Without warning though, She begins to fall in love with the younger of her masters, Sheftu, a noble who wants to restore Thutmose III to his throne. Now Mara must decide which side she is on, before it is too late.

I find this a thrilling tale that seemed to bring me into Mara's shoes, and felt torn myself on which way she should go. I really loved this book, and I do believe it's going on my favorites list.

Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynne Jones

Enchanted Glass

This book, by Diana Wynne Jones, is a wonderful fantasy that makes you want to stay up all night to read it. The story starts in a mythical place, where Aidan Cain, a newly orphaned boy, arrives at the home of one of his grandmother's old friends. Sadly, the old man had died a year earlier, leaving the house and it's occupants to his grandson Andrew. As he begins to get used to his surroundings in this new place, Aidan meets a whole cast of unlikely characters, including a man who's missing leg thinks it's still there, a dog who can turn into a little boy, and a man who can grow vegetables larger than any you've seen.

I really enjoyed reading this. Other books by Diana Wynne Jones, are Howl's Moving Castle, House of Many Ways, and Castle in the Air, which I hope to later post about as well.

Thanks for reading,

Kelsie and Myla

The Goodness of God by Randy Alcorn

My first book to review for Blogging for Books is The Goodness of God. This book is about being assured that God is good, even during hard times. Overall, this book seems biblically sound and is easy to read. Alcorn backs up his points with scripture. I liked that this wasn't a book with the message of "if you pray the right prayer, everything will be sunshine and roses", but rather a book about how even our suffering works toward the goodness of God. I recommend this book for a short read to help you dig deeper in to your Bible studies.
